Farmer Eyes

We are officially in the throes of Spring!  For farmers, they are past the beginning point and have been adjusting their legs to the constant movement that is farming as the season pushes forward at a pace all its own.  Decisions made now could have a significant impact on yield come harvest, and every day, there is a myriad of decisions to make.  Plans have to be made to anticipate all possibilities.  Mother nature, while beautiful and generous, can also be intense and indifferent.  It is not uncommon for a person of agriculture to lay awake in the middle of the night considering new plans and questioning those that have been made thus far.  Much is known, much is done, and much is uncertain.  Habit is relied upon, yet innovation is constant.  It is precisely this combination of rote movements and unpredictability that compose the genetic sequencing of a true farmer.  Yes, they are under pressure, but there is a creativity involved with such weight which they love.

We asked Graham Gamache who farms hops and apples for Cornerstone Ranches if we could borrow his eyes to see what’s going on around him right now.  He obliged.
